We believe that a Christian curriculum that has excellence clearly in view will best help children to grow as confident followers of Jesus. One of our goals, which we rightly believe we will never reach, is to say, “We can do no better!” With this in mind, we are constantly focusing our energy on curriculum development.
One of our central objectives is to foster a Christian worldview in our students. Our school is not merely Christian in the fact of having a regular Bible class and weekly chapel, but more so in that we study all subjects as windows into God’s creation.
Our classroom teaching is enriched by a poetry caf, a public speaking festival, a spelling bee, and an annual Battle of the Books competition (among many other things!). Our students in grades 4-9 participate in either the science or heritage fair each year.
Immanuel Christian School is the only school on PEI to use a revolutionary way of teaching French called Histoires en action! Carefully designed stories that are written in the form of plays become the focus for a range of motivating language activities that help students develop confidence in the language as they progress through each story unit.
A major component of this program is the Gesture Approach, a technique that uses hand signs to help students learn and remember the important vocabulary found in the plays, songs, and other activities. There is a strong emphasis on the development of all four language skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking) through a program that meets the needs of all language learners and their learning styles.
